New posts are coming soon

My apologies for the big delay with new posts - it has been CRAZZZY busy and I can barely find time to sit at my computer. There is so much more interesting research being released in the past few months and I will bring some interesting information soon.
In the meantime, here's the cool video we've been working hard on. Watch the whole 60 seconds, then hit replay ;)

What to eat before an exercise? All about pre workout

Pre workout
I've seen it a hundred times. You are going to train and you ask yourself, what should I eat before hitting the gym?

Short answer is: you should not be eating anything before training! The unmistakable reaction is usually: "But where will I get my energy from?"

There are many myths surrounding pre workout meals from eating every two hours, going to train on energy drinks pumped with sugars as well as the pre-workout carb/protein supplements.

When the prehistoric man woke up in the morning, it's unlikely to think he had breakfast and went hunting for the rest of the week in the supermarket. Oh no, he woke up hungry and then went for a hunt. Only when he had his kill he would rest and eat.
Here's the thing: His hunger is related to the famous "fight or flight" stress response where the body releases Adrenaline. This allowed our prehistoric man to stay sharp, fast and primed for action while he was hunting and this is exactly what you want to allow yourself when exercising.

Seeing is Believing - UNREAL RESULTS

Congratulations Mighty Jonathan!

Jonathan Erskine-Nartey has been training with me just under 4 months, 4 times a week in the morning and his determination has paid off big time. With a lot of dedication, we managed to get Jonathan from an average, extremely helpful, friendly, conscientious personality hard working guy with dreams of a flat tummy into a serious Male Fitness Model. He will be contesting on "Miami Pro" Fitness Modeling & Bodybuilding competition events on the 1st of April 2012 (No, it's not an April's fool joke) at Alban Arena, HERTS as well as the Miami Pro European Championships 2012 on 2nd & 3rd June 2012 at ExCEL, LONDON

So how did we do it?

Runners High

Been a bit busy lately but promise to update more rapidly.
Here's an interesting article in Scientific American covering the runner's high from different perspectives.
Quite interestingly, scientists seem to be a bit in the dark on this one.....

Get an outstanding posture for all the right reasons!

Your posture plays a key part when it comes to living a healthy, pain-free life. Your posture is the foundation of any movement you do, whether it's exercising in the gym, sitting at your desk or carrying heavy shopping bags. It's also the foundation of how you communicate with your body language and can determine whether you come across as weak or as a symbol of strength, poise and confidence. However, poor posture doesn't only makes you look weaker, it actually makes you weak.

There is a bit more to having a good posture than most people would realize.

Shaking protein misconceptions. How much protein do you really need.

We've all felt the pressure of advertisers. We've all been told and sold that we must have a protein shake before training, after training, before going to sleep and first thing in the morning. And if we don't? Our metabolism will drop, our muscles will not repair themselves and we will all be conquered by green gooey aliens that scream "scho ococooo" in a sexy low pitched tone.

The logic behind the advertising is simple: Muscle is made of protein and training breaks down muscle. Therefore you should drink a protein shake. Of course it doesn't take into consideration whether you are getting enough protein as it is which usually leads people to rationalize that more protein means more muscle. This impact of advertising is so strong that the more experienced of us, who already know this isn't true, are often tempted to still go about it in the same way, while convincing ourselves it's a necessary evil and that the fat can be burnt off later on. True, yet still a long way to a very short sighted goal. Why would you build fat just to burn it off if you can just build the muscle faster, without the excessive fat gain?

Eat and avoid fat gain! How to cheat biology and stay lean

Have you ever trained hard just to feel guilty after enjoying yourself a little bit too much at dinner? Wouldn't it be great to go binge on a large meal with half the guilt involved?
Today I'm going to expose a dirty little secret (one of many) that can be used to trick your body into storing less body fat from what you eat. Most of us know that Insulin plays a big part in getting excess blood glucose to be stored as fat. Less of us actually realize how to interfere that process and divert it into muscle cells instead.

What if there was a way you could get all that naughty food into the muscle cells rather than the fat cells by devoting a bit of your time as you impatiently wait for it to be killed, cooked and served?
